VoLTE and VoWIFI certification for Tango

Bertrange, 12 July 2018 – After 12 months of deployment, Tango today announced its Voice over LTE (VoLTE or 4G Calls) and Voice over Wi-Fi (VoWIFI or Wi-Fi Calls) certification. These services will be available from 23 July. Customers with a compatible device will be able to fully benefit from these services, at no extra cost. This innovation is a significant step towards higher quality of service and offers a solution to coverage limitations inside buildings.

For 20 years, Tango has accompanied its customers in the democratization and discovery of technological innovations. This month, the operator will offer them VoLTE and VoWIFI – two very complementary technologies which allow optimal use of smartphones.

First significant gain: coverage. VoWIFI ensures better network coverage indoors, with Wi-Fi taking over. This functionality can prove very useful for constructions in which next-generation insulation or reinforced concrete can block the telephone signal. This heralds the end of indoor coverage problems and standing close to windows to get a better signal while calling. Moreover, since devices can easily switch from one system to another, it's possible to start a conversation outdoors and continue it indoors thanks to VoWIFI.

Another advantage: you will now be able to call while you're connected to the Internet. Until now, calls were only supported by the 3G or 2G networks, with 4G/4G+ only dedicated to data. For calls, 4G switched automatically to one of these two networks. With calls no longer resulting in a cut of the Internet connection, users can now call while they surf. The possibilities are endless: file transfers during a call, real-time translation of a conversation, video messaging, augmented reality, etc.

Final advantage of these innovations: call and reception quality. Thanks to "Voice over IP" voice coding, users can benefit from optimal call quality, HD sound, and nearly instantaneous dialing and connection.

"These VoLTE and VoWIFI certifications are the product of our entire team. Aware of the numerous advantages of these solutions, we now want to integrate them into all our mobile subscriptions, at no extra cost. This way, subscribers who have compatible smartphones will be able to benefit from this technology free of charge," concludes Luis Camara of Tango.

List of compatible devices:
For Samsung: the Samsung A6, Samsung Galaxy S8/8+ and S8 dual SIM are already certified; the Samsung Galaxy S9/9+, S7/S7 Edge, Samsung Note 8 and the latest generation of Samsung A3, A5, A8, J5, and J7 will follow.

For Apple: the iPhone X, 8/8 Plus, 7/7 Plus, 6S/6S Plus and 6/6 Plus will be certified as of October 2018.

Dates may be modified as a result of manufacturer updates, which are beyond our control. The updates may be carried out sequentially: one type of device at a time. In each case, our customers will be notified via our Internet site, on which they will find an up-to-date list of compatible devices as well as the procedure for activating the VoLTE and VoWIFI services on their device.
